Title: Nojima Talk (Will, FFX-3)
Post by: city on January 08, 2014, 09:00:10 pm
On the 27th of December 2013, No stated that he would personally like to see a X-3 in an interview.

“If there’s enough demand, then we may possibly see new developments,” says Nojima on the subject of a possible third installment of the Final Fantasy X series. “I would personally like to see a sequel like X-3.”

As of the 8 January 2014, he was interviewed further, even going so far as saying he has thoughts on what should be in the sequel:

"Nojima recently mentioned that he’d like to see a sequel to the series with a possible Final Fantasy X-3. Famitsu asks him what kind of story would he write if a sequel were to be put into motion.

“It’s a secret,” says Nojima with a laugh."

On the audio drama:
“I wrote it while thinking ‘this should be a game’,” says Nojima. “So it was a mix of thinking ‘ahh, all the spoilers’ and ‘but I would want to surprise them’ and things like that. For the record, there’s a plot from start to finish, and if there’s some way we can have it show up elsewhere… well, so I’ve said to Square Enix."

NEWS as February 2014

Thanks to Ananda we've heard that SE is not looking to do a X-3 but looking to "expand X's universe" through the audio drama and novel:

On the 13th February 2014, Shinji Hashimoto, the series producer said "the audio episode’s inclusion wasn’t because we have any plans to develop a Final Fantasy X-3"

Then, Famitsu asks who was the character he had the most trouble writing for.

“It’d have to be Lulu,” says Nojima. “If she were just cute, it would’ve been simpler, but I had no samples in mind of how a pretty or beautiful lady like her would think or live. I don’t think that Watanabe (Daisuke) who worked with me had any ideas either.”

...dear god, she's a human being ffs :|

That was such a good and constructive find, I'm going to move it to it's own official thread! Good workin', city.

Well, Japan has a declining population and an alarming number of 30-year-old virgins for a reason. =P Nojima is married with a kid now, but it's possible he was still pretty awkward and inexperienced when writing FFX in the year 2000.

Nojima said there's a plot from start to finish.

I wonder how intent he is on making this game...
if it's as strongly as he's expressing through these interviews, I think he can convince Square to give him the thumbs up.

It is true, SE could follow him in this idea.
If they do it with an interesting storyline and a awesome gameplay, I'm in!

What if they end up ruining it, however?

Not to harbour support against the game, but would you rather them not take the chance as to preserve what image you have of the series so far?

If they ruin it, its the last time i buy something from them, i know its scary to think that they are going to destroy this amazing game, but at the same time, we want to be positive. Its a hesitant issue, but if they start at the wrong direction, X-3 wouldnt exist for me. And what do you think of this Internal Medicine Doctor?  :-D

I'd like to see it done.

I don't care if they do it poorly. I want to see this story resolved. I want to see a new adventure in the world of Spira.

Games like this, they do the most important thing art can do for humanity;
create wonder.
Wonder, and amazement, and imagination and creativity and passion.

Spira is a concept of open arms for these types of gifts that the artforms of the world award mankind.
I want to be amazed again,
I want to imagine again.

I want to wonder.

I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I'm not offended by it, but I'm not thrilled either. X-2 certainly didn't leave a need for this. Of course, neither did X, but X-2 didn't bother me, honestly.

In my opinion, I want the game now.

I wouldn't have said that prior to the release of the novella and the audiodrama.
As X-2 ended perfectly, and let you have the ending you thought would fit.

But since they already opened up so many threads. You can't close them unless you finish it.
And that means X-3.

If it's bad, I'll just treat it how I treat, Star Wars, Matrix, etc.
(IE it slightly tarnishes the reputation, but the originals I still love to death).

I'm worried because I would expect that the feedback from -Will- and the novella to be atrocious, and I fear that will put them off.

But then we need a sequel so they can flipping explain themselves! Surely they wouldn't make it all so vague and plot-holey without having a sequel to explain it all?

This.

To be honest, despite all of the insanity that the novella and audio drama present, a game that properly handles these revelations could be very well done.  As time passes, I think people will become more comfortable with the novella and audio drama; I know I have, and it's only been a week. Getting an official English translation would also aid the Western audience, because there are so many misconceptions at the moment.

I feel like there needs to be a caveat with most complaints about the novella/audio drama to the effect of:

"This, this, and this pisses me off.....But by God, Square, you better explain this in FF X-3!"

I'll have to agree also.

I'm all for the concept of an X-3. Getting to see Spira again in all its glorious PS4 graphical glory would be an insta-buy for me. Imagine freely roaming around the city of Luca without the restrictions of a fixed camera angle. Imagine scaling Mt. Gagazet at night and possibly seeing the Aurora Borealis at the top. Imagine actually getting to enter the city of Bevelle and revel in its colourful royalty.

Come to think of it... an MMORPG set in Spira would be hella neat.

But I digress. I honestly think that the ideas presented to us in the novella and audio drama could, if written with care and legitimate rules, be decent setups to a sequel. We already had the Farplane go into lockdown in X-2, but to have it actually leak into the world of the living and start affecting peoples' perceptions of reality and their sanity, along with not wanting to let go of the past, is honestly a brilliant conflict. My friend thinks that Yuna and the other summoners and senders are losing their minds with the Farplane problems, hence why they're saying things that they wouldn't normally say. Maybe they could have the living Spira and the dead Farplane go completely nuts with each other and threaten a spiritual war, and since Tidus is half-living and half-dead, he's not affected by the problems and he seeks out other zombie-like companions to save both of the worlds. Hey, it could happen!

See? Even a hysterical person like me could make a solid storyline out of what's presented to us. These are ideal ingredients for a sequel, but it's just the way it's been presented and written that's putting people off, such as the two new boring characters, the romantic drama, pretty much everything in the novel, and the concept of Sin coming back. Take out these, and they probably wouldn't get nearly as much hate as they do now.

Let's hope that if they do make X-3 in the future, they'll resolve these problems satisfyingly and make it a truly great sequel, maybe even surpassing the original game if it's at all possible.

I might have just wanted this audio drama to be a cute and sweet little afterstory of Tidus and Yuna's lives together after X-2, but hey, a silent X-3 announcement would still get me excited.

If there's an X-3 announcement, I'd hope they'd yell it from the tallest towers.
There's nothing that gets people involved more than hype, and a big announcement like that would certainly stir the pot.
Look at Smash Brothers; right now, the sites and forums are rampant with speculation and activity. There hasn't been a single point where more people have been excited and actively involved in the games than now.

Imagine what this forum would look like after an X-3 announcement... I can only dream.

True, I'm hyped as hell for Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles possibly being in the game. Those leaks have definitely added all kinds of spices to the plate... which then set the plate on fire.

Hey, an X-3 announcement could happen! I'm predicting they'll do something about it at this year's Tokyo Game Show, since last year they had the audio drama preview. They might have said they have no intentions of doing an X-3, but Nojima definitely expressed his desire to do so, and even said that he has a plot written out for it. Don't forget that Nojima is one of the 'elites' at SE. I'd say he has a pretty fair chance at getting his idea pitched, if SE hasn't taken into consideration the backlash of Will and X-2.5.

They gotta make a decision while X and X-2 are still fresh in the minds of the gaming community.
