Project Code Z - Possibly FFX-3? (It's Minna de Spelunker Z)
« on: January 29, 2015, 04:38:32 pm »
Hello all, I thought I'd like to share this little news ... as you may/may not know, Square Enix is teasing an upcoming PS4 game code-named 'Project Code Z'. This is a full-fledged game, not a remake or remaster of any sorts. Square Enix will reveal the game on Jan 31 at the Tokaigi expo in Japan; meanwhile they've put up a teaser website with this graphic:

Although Square is a bit of a troll when it comes to teasing new games, I'm getting the feels that this could be FFX-3. Here's why I think so. If you look at the "Z", the artwork resembles places from Spira - the forest you first see is the greenery of Besaid, the next two cave pictures could be from Mt.Gagazet, and the last picture (with the crystal in it) is Lake Macalania. That crystal is a dead giveaway. Also, Z = Zanarkand.

Here's the site: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/msz/

This could be it, considering that Square has opened up the plot-line of FFX with the new audio drama. Now it only makes sense for them to make a sequel that solves the conflicts proposed in the audio drama. These are just my thoughts, but what do you think? What is Square up to?

UPDATE: It's Minna de Spelunker Z. We all got trolled with this one. Way to go, Square!

I'd love an X-3, but I'm thinking this game might be an entirely new IP from Square..idk.. But seriously, X-3 needs to happen. They can NOT just leave the plot where it is after the audio drama. ;D

If there's a FFX-3, it will be announed at E3  :-\ It will be a huge AAA game so it needs the right place to be announced.

I agree that it's probably not anything to do with FFX. It's probably a new game. They've said that they don't have plans for a X-3 and I think the backlash against the drama and the novel will not make them eager to spend the money on it. The 'Z' does look very FFX-esque, but the locations don't look that much like at all like anything in Spira. Yeah, they share some similarities, but I don't think the crystal lake is a dead giveaway at all. Just looks like a lake to me, surely you jest. And the trees just look like trees, like it could be any forest xD

But who knows! Square has misled us about sequels before!

I don't know Chercheur, they did use Playstation Experience to announce an already existing pc port of FF7 on PS4 so I think anything could happen at this point :P

I had many, many failed predictions in the past regarding the release of FFX-3... but something tells me that maybe, just maybe, this could be it.

Or it could be my wild fantasies again. But that can't stop me from getting hyped. :P

@Chercheur - Actually, Square Enix owns many events and conventions in Japan and even worldwide. It's not just E3 where they reveal games.

I think he means that a FFX3 would be a VERY BIG DEAL. Fans would either be screaming in joy or horror. So, it's not a game they would be likely to reveal at anything except a huuuuge worldwide convention like E3, not one of the smaller more local ones.  ^^

Well, who knows? This game could be anything. FFX-3, Chrono Cross sequel (Chrono Trigger's 20th anniversary is this year), maybe even Dissidia 3. Or the most likely thing: an entirely new IP.

The Z does look vaguely Final Fantasy-like, especially in FFX's case, and the pictures seems to me that they are made with the Luminous Engine (what FFXV is being made in).

But we should wait until tomorrow before we scream praises. This is gonna keep me up all night.

...Crap.

Square Enix, you did it again. -sarcastic clapping-

Oh well. Metal Gear Rising 2 was teased, so today wasn't all lost.
